17.01.2012: Auf der Flucht

Ich bin nicht weiter Richtung Rainbow Beach und Fraser Island gefahren, sondern umgekehrt. Und das war gut so!

Hier ein paar Schlagzeilen:

• A low off the Queensland coast has dumped heavy rain, bringing damaging winds and whipping up dangerous seas.
• Winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour have buffeted the coast from Fraser Island through to the New South Wales border.
• Dangerous conditions have also forced the closure of many beaches along the south-east coast, with all Gold Coast beaches to close from 1.00pm today.

Ich habe mich ins Hinterland zurückgezogen und bin wieder Richtung Süden unterwegs. Sehenswert waren Nimbim (eine Aussteigerkolonie), Tenterfield (dort wurde 1889 die Föderationsrede "One Nation" gehalten) und Glen Innes (1000 m hoch; Iren, Schotten und Einwanderer aus Wales pflegen hier ihre Traditionen). In Glen Innes übernachte ich heute.
